ABOUT THE CLINIC
This amazing all-inclusive clinic is held at the beautiful Mountain Horse Farm. The 3-days of learning include interactive exercises, herd observation and hands-on application designed to help deepen your understanding of horses, their behavior, how you affect them and how to improve your overall communication with them. The clinic goal is to provide participants with tools to help create safer, more enjoyable and trusting relationships that support horses, emotionally, mentally and physically. If you are in search of a true form of Holistic Horsemanship, then this clinic is for you.
Retreat subjects will include:
- Honoring the Horse-Equine Psychology & Physiology: Deepen your understanding of why horses do what they do and gain insights into their world. Improve your ability to create a partnership based on trust and understanding with you coming out as the obvious leader and protector.
- It’s all About You!-Self-Awareness & Mindfulness: Heidi shares a plethora of exercises learned in the dojo and as a Centered Riding Clinician. Inspirational, educational and fun interactive exercises will introduce you to the basics of Soft Eyes, Breathing, Centering and Balance, along with Grounding and Awareness. Then you’ll take the “new you” to the horse and observe the changes that occur for you both.
- Problem Solving with Positive Reinforcement Training: Learn how to use positive reinforcement training techniques, such as Clicker Training (no clicker needed or used) and Horse Speak methods, to help horses overcome fears and phobias. These training methods help promote understanding, desire and confidence in the horse. They are proven to reduce fear, create confidence and retrain undesirable behaviors quickly and more safely than many traditional methods. They make sense to the horse, they create a tremendous amount of “try” and result in everyone being happy. The goal is to establish a connection based on understanding and trust. This systematic, reward-based training does not scare the horse or send him into flight mode. It causes him to slow down, relax, think and try, creating a “thinking action”, not a “reaction”. Heidi will include some basic fun tricks to teach the horses as well.
- Stress-free Obstacle Training: With the help of some fun, in-hand obstacles you will deepen your understanding of the horse’s personality and individual learning style. The focus will be on discovering how to read the horse and offer him just the right amount of support, calmness, clarity, understanding, patience and praise. Confidence will grow in the horse and the human!
The clinic includes 4 overnight stays and 3 full days of training. The delicious meals start with dinner on the first evening and end with breakfast on the last morning.
You will work with our herd of horses. It is not an option to bring your own. This clinic does not involve riding horses, but it will touch on topics that can be very helpful with riding.
During this clinic no other guests but Heidi and the participants will stay at Mountain Horse Farm. The maximum number of participants is kept low at 10 and we don’t accept auditors. To interact with the horses, you will be asked to sign waivers. Make sure you wear shoes with closed toes (no flipflops, slippers or sandals) and it’s always a good idea to dress in layers.
Mountain Horse Farm is located in the beautiful Finger Lakes region, famous for its wineries and breweries, gorgeous lakes and waterfalls. You may want to consider adding a few days to your trip to explore the area.
